Charlotte may not have an established reputation as a “foodie” city…at least not yet. But with so many award-winning and nationally recognized restaurants, it’s bound to get some recognition soon!

If you’re looking to take a culinary tour of the best that Charlotte has to offer, look no further. Try out a few of these restaurants, and discover for yourself why Charlotte really is a foodie city.

Kindred

A plate of fancy food.

Widely regarded as one of the best restaurants—if not the best restaurant—in the Charlotte area, Kindred is a family-owned restaurant that focuses on seasonal dishes and local ingredients. Although it’s a short drive out of the city in Davidson, it’s well-worth the half-hour trip. The restaurant has been recognized as a nominee and semi-finalist in the James Beard Awards for years!

Menu prices range from $5 to $23 and include offerings like mouthwatering duck fat potatoes to squid ink conchiglie served with shrimp, tarragon, and sea urchin butter.

Barrington’s

A single scallop.

Part of the prolific and popular Moffet Restaurant Group in Charlotte, Barrington’s is all about New American Cuisine and innovation. The restaurant has been open since 2000 and established a strong reputation, affording the chefs with the opportunity to take a few risks on the menu—producing unique and delicious dishes in the process.

If you manage to snag reservations, a few of the must-haves on the menu include the pan seared sea scallops, handmade gnochhi, and pan seared foie gras.

Stagioni

Pasta.

Another MRG-owned restaurant, Stagioni is all about the Italian flavors that Chef Bruce Moffat grew to love during his travels. Paying homage to the original owner of the property—a renowned hostess—Stagioni focuses on hospitality, warmth, and good times.

If you’re a fan of pasta, then you’re going to love what’s on the menu, including triangoli with NC blue crab, lamb-stuffed tortellini, and truffle tagliatelle. You can also find a variety of pizzas, antipastos, and meat dishes.

Good Food on Motford

Mussels.

Good Food on Motford is a tapas-style restaurant, focusing on small plates that experiment with flavors from all around the world. The atmosphere of Good Food on Motford is dynamic, community-focused, and bright.

The ever-changing seasonal menu features a variety of flavors from all around the globe, and the more affordable prices mean you can try a handful! We love the garganelli, the steamed bun, and the Prince Edward Island mussels.
